Professor Jerry Shapiro is the first dermatologist to devote his entire practice to the study of hair. His career spans over 36 years. He is presently the Director of Disorders of the Hair and Scalp at New York University in Manhattan. He has published over 250 peer reviewed scientific articles including the New England Journal of Medicine and has published over 40 book chapters on trichologic medicine. He also has written 4 textbooks in 4 different languages. He has presented over 600 lectures worldwide on 6 continents. He has trained 40 Hair Fellows from 4 continents. He was the first to set up a comprehensive hair fellowship, which combined clinical, surgical, and basic science skills. He now has one of the busiest hair practices in the world in New York City with a global clientele. He has been interviewed by major TV networks and magazines including USA Today ABC News, Men’s Health, Oprah Magazine, Dr. Oz, and Scientific American. He was President of the World Congress of Dermatology in 2015 and President of the World Congress of Hair Research in 2007. He was President of the American Hair Research Society from 2003-2006.
